In PRACTICE.
This past week of ISM has been very exciting.
On Wednesday, I attended the annual ISM business symposium hosted by my school. This experience was an amazing learning opportunity that allowed me to improve my interview skills, learn about the importance of networking, and practice how to conduct professional conversations with real-life business professionals working in all types of different professions.
At the ISM Business Symposium, the most advantageous part was the interview process. These “practice” interviews were conducted with different professionals that work throughout Frisco. The reason why I thought that this was very beneficial was due to the fact that all of these professionals worked in different professions, and I was able to get different opinions from many different aspects of the professional world regarding my resume and my interview skills and techniques. I was honestly critiqued on my resume and learned how to make it much more visually appealing and effective towards individuals considering me for any future internships or jobs relating to the medical field. I was really appreciative towards all of the interviewers honesty with me regarding my answers to their questions and my resume. This opportunity was a great help in improving myself as an aspiring future professional.
In addition to interviews, the Business Symposium also consisted of networking among my peers and meeting ISM alumni. The current ISM students were great to interact with and discuss our fields of choice, and the ISM alumni was able to provide insight into how ISM was a great tool for college and beyond. Listening to the ISM alumni and their experiences in ISM and college really allowed me to realize how beneficial the skills learned in ISM were in college and the workforce.
Regarding my informational interview this week, the medical professional that I had conducted my informational interview with was quite helpful. Dr. Champine was overwhelmingly kind and approachable. She was able to offer me great advice from different points of view of the medical field, which helped me to gain a better understanding of the field of medicine as a whole. I really appreciated that she was taking time out of her day to talk with me, and the information I was able to attain from this interview will definitely be beneficial towards my future as an aspiring medical student and medical professional.
